Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some of the questions you may have about the relationship between Cathedral and the Brothers of Holy Cross.

Q: Why did Cathedral choose to affiliate with the Brothers of Holy Cross?

A: The conversation began four years ago when Cathedral representatives attended the Holy Cross Institute at St. Edward's University.  Members of Cathedral's faculty and staff, and in particular educators in the theology department, felt this relationship would help imbed Holy Cross values even more firmly into Cathedral's culture and help us clearly communicate the Catholic nature of our school.

Q: Will Brothers of Holy Cross be on campus?

A: We certainly hope that one (or hopefully even two) Holy Cross Brothers will be assigned to serve as a teacher, counselor, administrator, or member of the school's ministry staff.

Q: Will the Brothers be involved in the administration or finances of the school?

A: No, the Holy Cross Congregation will have no control over the governance or operations of the school.  The only financial agreement relates to our voluntary support of the Holy Cross Institute which is a center for educational research and dissemination of "best practices" for educators around the country and the world.  Cathedral will be able to send faculty, staff, and students to conferences and workshops at the Holy Cross Institute to help us become an even more effective Catholic high school in todays's society.

Q: How will the reaffiliation affect academics?

A: The Brothers will not play any role in the development of academic curriculum nor in the admission process of our school.  Our affiliation with the Congregation of Holy Cross is meant to strengthen the Catholic nature of Cathedral and supports our philosophy of holistic education that we've maintained since 1918.

The foundation elements of a Holy Cross education have served this school and its students remarkably well over the past nine decades and are a deeply ingrained part of our culture.  Many things will change at Cathedral over time... the use of technology, methods of instruction, new curriculum, and more.  What will not change is the core belief that a young person "educated in the Holy Cross tradition" will be best prepared to meet the challenges of the future.
