Mentoring Magic

Club Description:
The purpose of Mentoring Magic is to provide a family atmosphere while offering positive reinforcement. Members are paired with a student from one of the participating schools to mentor throughout the school year. Members are asked to make the commitment of mentoring a student once a week. There is some flexibility of committing either to fall semester or spring semester if the member is not able to commit to the full school year. The consistency of the mentor’s presence is key to the success of the program. Members of Mentoring Magic meet in the Student Life Center immediately after dismissal from classes to depart for their location. Mentoring Magic services a diverse group of students and mentors children that are homeless and in transition with the “School on Wheels” program. Members also mentor students that attend impoverished schools, both public and Catholic.  Students must complete an application form and turn in two sponsorship letters to join Mentoring Magic. The group asks for school supply donations in August for a backpack give away. Members will be asked to take turns purchasing juice boxes or healthy snacks for the students they mentor. Members will be given the opportunity to purchase a Mentoring Magic t-shirt for $15.
